At this point of the transition many transfers are balancing the excitement leftover from the start of the semester as the to-do list is getting longer. Lean on your supports and resources around you to help reduce the common stressors that come as we head toward mid-semester.
Keep an Eye on Your Health and Wellness:
Wellness in both body and mind is important. Keep the ‘Hangries’ at bay with good nutrition. Check out group fitness classes or exercise on your own. Try a free yoga, tai chi, or Pilates class at Boynton and while you’re there get your Free Flu Shot.
Study smarter, not harder:
Attend a workshop, find online help, or schedule a meeting 1-1 with an Academic Coach to make sure your getting the most out of the time you’re putting into your work. Are you coming back to classes after some time off? Consider a half-semester 1-credit course for a great, structured, academic refresher for success.
Make your learning come to life through volunteering:
Make a difference in the world and get to know our Twin Cities community. Connect with the U of M Community Service Learning Center for a great first step to exploring volunteering. Check out the Seven Ways to Engage for other ways to apply your knowledge in meaningful ways.
Manage the Costs of College: Live like a Student:
The Live Like a Student campaign provides helpful tools and info to help manage the costs of college. Check out their map of (fun and cheap) things to do in the Twin Cities.
Join an Honors Society:
Tau Sigma - National Honors Society for Transfers Students has a U of M chapter! Some perks to being a member - Be recognized for outstanding academic achievement, meet other transfer students, and apply for national scholarships. More info here.
Show Your Gopher Pride and be Forever Gold:
Homecoming is one of the fall semester’s biggest U of M traditions. Check out the various Homecoming activities. Don’t miss the parade and be sure to wear your maroon and gold while cheering for your Golden Gophers!
Class registration is just around the corner:
Yes, it’s time to start thinking about Spring registration. Consider scheduling a meeting with your Academic Advisor now to stay on track for graduation. Once you know the classes you need, use the Schedule Builder to find various course schedules based on open courses.
It’s getting darker earlier and midterm exams can have us staying on campus later studying. Follow some helpful tips to stay safe from SAFE U. Visit the website and be sure to sign up for TXT-U alerts.
